Summary

When using the link to "Change my Password" there are requirements it must pass and a security check it goes through.

Detailed Information

  1. Go to: https://helpdesk.ndus.edu
  2. Select the Change your Password tile
  3. Setting a new password
    1. If you recall your password
      1. Login with your existing username and password
      2. Select Change Password
    2. If you do not recall your password
      1. Select Forgot My Password
      2. Follow the on-screen prompts to reset your password

Rule requirements for a new password:

  • Password is case sensitive
  • Must be at least 14 characters long
  • Must be no more than 32 characters long
  • Must not include any of the following values: password test & " , < >
  • Must not include part of your name or user name
  • Should not include a common word or commonly used sequence of characters
  • New password may not have been used previously
  • Passwords are validated against the HaveIBeenPwned data breach database.

NOTE: The last validation is a new security addition.

To increase the security, the Self Service Password Reset performs an online validation for the user entered password against the HaveIBeenPwned database, and allows only if it is not available in the database. The HaveIBeenPwned database checks whether the personal data (password) has been compromised by a data breach in the past.  It does not mean you used it before, but that someone did and it was compromised.
