Duo Enrollment
Duo is an additional level of security to protect sensitive information from identity theft. It requires users to use a second form of verification, in addition to their username/password. This other form can be a notification to your phone, a text message, phone call, token, Windows Hello, or IOS Touch ID.
Not all international phone numbers can receive calls or SMS.
We highly recommend setting up the mobile app to enable the Push option which works either via wifi or mobile data as well as setting up Windows Hello or Touch ID on your computer in case your mobile device is not available.
When logging into a Duo protected application such as M365, Blackboard, 2fa.ndus.edu, and portal.ndus.edu using your NDUS credentials, you will be prompted with Duo and if you aren't already registered then you will be prompted to do so (this is called "in-line" enrollment).
You will be prompted to add your first device to Duo. Your available choices will depend on the device you’re currently using. Windows Hello is shown on a Windows computer. A Mac computer will have touch ID. Mobile devices will have touch ID or face ID.
If you choose Duo Mobile, you will be prompted to add a phone number. If you are using a tablet, you will click that choice and go straight to downloading the Duo Mobile app for your tablet shown further on.
Once you enter your number, you will be prompted to confirm the number entered.
Once you confirm your number, you will be prompted to either send a passcode to your phone or call your phone.
Depending on your choice, either a passcode will be texted to you or you will receive a phone call to confirm your number. If you choose to send a passcode you will be prompted to enter the code you receive.
Once the code is verified, you will be prompted to download the Duo Mobile app to your mobile device.
You will be shown this prompt right away if you chose to enroll a tablet.
Next you will be prompted to either scan the QR code with your mobile device to start the download.
Or you can click the "Get an activation link instead" button to have the activation link sent to an email address of your choice.
After you use one of the methods to open the activation link and install the Duo Mobile app on your device, you will be prompted with a success prompt.
Once completed, you will be prompted with the choice to either add other available options to your Duo account (we recommend adding Windows Hello or IOS Touch ID as backups) or you can skip this step and complete your Duo account setup.
Instructions on how to add other methods can be found here. How to add devices to Duo
NOTE: Duo is no longer able to deliver automated phone calls for authentication to users with +86 numbers. International students attending with a +86 country code (China) may experience this issue. All other authentication methods, including phone-based options such as Duo Push and SMS passcodes, are not affected.
